How Can I Highlight Specific Product Information in Shopify?

Yes, you can add extra data information and data fields in Shopify. So, what do you understand by this? Suppose, you want to a care instructions for selling cosmetics or special information that varies from product to product. Therefore, you can do this with a feature provided by Shopify called custom fields.

Custom fields allow you to add data or information on products, orders, and collections.

So, you can create your data models using two of its features. One is Metafields and the other is Metaobjects.

Metafields means you can add products, customers,  blogs, or additional information for the product. Where as metaobjects allow you to create a separate page, and profiles with headlines, images, and descriptions.

What are the Types of Meta-fields?

There are three types of metafields. They are Standard, Custom, and App-owned metafields:

Standard:

So, let us  understand this type with examples.

Imagine you have a big store with lots of different sections. Now, think about how you might want to label or describe each section so that everyone who visits your store knows exactly where to find certain toys.

Well, in a big online store like Shopify, they have a way to label or describe different things in a similar way. They call these labels “definitions” because they help explain what things are. These definitions are made so that they work well in all the stores that use Shopify.

So, these special labels or definitions are like a language that Shopify stores use to make sure everything stays organized and can work smoothly with different parts of the store, like apps and themes.

Custom:

If you are selling toys that are a mix of a robot and a car and you want to tell everyone it’s a “RoboCar,” you’d create a custom label just for that toy. Similarly, in Shopify stores, these custom definitions are made for those special things that need their very own label because they’re different or don’t quite fit into the usual categories.

This helps keep everything organized and easy to understand, especially when some things are unique to a particular store.

App-owned metafields:

The same goes for an app you are selling through the Shopify App Store.

Metaobjects:

When we create a a metaobject, we have to decide a few things:

Name: This is like giving the container a special label, like calling it “Superheroes” or “Animals.”

Type: It’s like deciding what kind of things can go inside the container. Is it for small toys, big toys, or maybe just for pictures of toys?

Fields: These are like the different sections inside the container. We decide what each section will hold. For example, one section might hold descriptions (like telling a story about the toy), another section might hold pictures, and another might show what color the toy is. We can even set rules, like saying how long the story can be or what colors are allowed.

Final Words:

With custom data, you can make your own special categories or ways to sort toys. So, if you want to have a special section just for superhero toys with capes or maybe for toys made by a particular company, you can create your own special way of sorting and organizing those toys.
